On Catalina Island, the signs of the season can be subtle. Winter rains green the hillsides, activity in Avalon Harbor increases and the number of beach goers builds. One sign of the season we look forward to every spring takes place at the Catalina Coffee & Cookie Co. That’s right, Catalina fro-yo is back.
Home of the popular dark chocolate pistachio bark on our Avalon Tasting & Cultural Walking Tour, Catalina Coffee & Cookie Co. entices visitors and residents alike with gourmet coffee and irresistible baked goods. The popular breakfast spot is celebrating 15 years with the family owners. Open daily at 5 a.m. — thanks to wonderful folks who wake up a heck of a lot earlier than we do – CCCC has hot breakfast all day, including some gluten-free options that will make you forget they are gluten free. You won’t want to miss their cookies, peanut butter chocolate chip is a favorite, but you can’t go wrong with apricot nut, oatmeal chocolate chip, white chocolate raspberry swirl and a dozen others that are just as delicious.
Speaking of delicious, let’s get back to that Catalina fro-yo.
Blueberry and the original tart are kicking things off, but the flavors change regularly. There’s been quite a few that we’ve fallen completely head over heels in love with, like mango, peach, pomegranate, watermelon, pina colada, chocolate and raspberry. Heck, who are we kidding, we love them all. The fro-yo flavors are only half the fun. CCCC has a veritable buffet of toppings, including fresh strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, mango and raspberries. Plus there’s all kinds of cookie chunks (it’s the Catalina Coffee & Cookie Co., after all), bobas – those fun little bursting balls of fruity yummy-ness, and island made granola. Feeling decadent? Add some cheesecake bites, fruity pebbles or gummy bears – because why not?
CCCC’s fro-yo bar is open daily until summer is all gone. See you there.
