Yum. Yum. Yum.
For more than a decade, the best Catalina restaurants have been celebrating what it means to be a CatalinaFoodie at the annual Taste Around of Avalon. Much more than a just an opportunity to taste fabulous food, creative cocktails and delectable desserts, the Taste Around is also an opportunity for Avalon chefs to stretch their creativity and engage in a bit of – mostly – friendly competition.
Organized by the Catalina Island Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau, the Taste Around of Avalon attracted about 500 people on May 31, 300 of which voted for their favorites. Not surprisingly, many of the stops on the Avalon Tasting & Cultural Walking Tour and the Catalina Happy Hour Tour took top honors in 2018.
In the food category, Maggie’s Blue Rose took third place with a duck taquito with house-made mole and an avocado enchilada with poblano sauce. First and second went to the Avalon Grille and El Galleon respectively.
For the alcoholic beverages, at Steve’s Steakhouse and Seafood, the key lime martini brought in second place, while the Catallac and Avalon Grille took first and third place.
In the dessert category, congratulations go out to and Steve’s Steakhouse & Seafood, which claimed first place with key lime pie bites, and Lloyd’s of Avalon, which claimed third place, with a cheesecake brownie bite. Second place honors went to Scoops.
In the non-alcoholic category, we’re happy to reveal that Catalina Coffee & Cookie Co. took first place with our yummy strawberry hibiscus iced tea. Thanks for the love – both at the Taste Around and every day. Also honored for non-alcoholic beverages were our friends at Coyote Joes and Café Metropole.
