It’s no secret that we’re big fans of the Avalon Taste Around. This annual event serves to spotlight the culinary creativity of Avalon restaurants’ chefs, bartenders and dessert makers, showcasing not just their regular menus but also their ability to conjure something new.
In fact, we’re such big fans of the Avalon Taste Around that the event inspired us to start a company and create the Avalon Tasting and Cultural Walking Tour, providing hundreds of visitors with an opportunity to experience the fun and deliciousness of the one-night event.
We’re definitely not the only ones who love the Avalon Taste Around. Each year the event grows in popularity and this year saw more than 600 visitors and residents enjoy the tastes available at 15 Avalon restaurants. Organized by the Catalina Island Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau, the Taste Around is also a competition and this year’s results were close – a handful of votes separated the winners.
It’s not a surprise that some of Avalon’s top restaurants claimed the top spots in food. Perineal favorites Steve’s Steakhouse & Seafood claimed first place, followed closely by the Avalon Grille and Bluewater Avalon.
In the alcoholic beverage category, Maggie’s Blue Rose took top honors, with Mi Casita in second place and El Galleon in third. The top Avalon non-alcoholic beverage went to Island Spa Catalina, with second place claimed by Maggie’s Blue Rose and third by Coyote Joes.
The final category, dessert, was claimed by Lloyds of Avalon; second place went to Scoops, and third place to Bluewater Avalon.
Congratulations to the all the winners – we think the real winners were those of us who got to enjoy the competition.
