In August, the buzz on Catalina Island is all about one thing: It’s Busy! Restaurants are at capacity, the beaches are overflowing and the Avalon waterfront is filled to the brim.
The weather is also nearly perfect, the water is irresistibly warm and there are of things to do in Avalon.
Here’s just a few of those Avalon things to do that we’re looking forward to:
Tip A Glass At Tipping Point – The Catalina Island Museum’s latest outdoor art installation was designed to illustrate the coming catastrophe of extinction facing many species. Explore the installation and what it means every Thursday evening at the museum. Wine will be available for purchase and you can visit weekly until Sept. 5. Tipping Point can also be experienced daily with regular museum admission, which is free if you’re a member – and why wouldn’t you be.
Summer Music Nights at the Metropole Marketplace – We’re been enjoying those warm summer nights at Summer Music Nights at the Metropole Marketplace. These fun free concerts are a great excuse to check out some local musicians and buy some eats from Catalina Coffee & Cookie Co, Café Metropole or Three Palms Avalon Arcade. Upcoming concerts include Hot Off the Range from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. August. 17 and Los Isleños from 7 to 9 p.m. Aug. 24.
Woodstock – Speaking of live music, the annual Summer Concert Series has been in full swing, with a tribute to Woodstock coming up on Aug. 17 on Wrigley Stage. These free, family-friendly concerts always get the audience dancing in the street while the music echoes across Avalon Harbor. Don’t miss a chance to win the three raffle prizes, amazing packages that include Catalina Food Tours and Catalina Coffee & Cookie Co.
Outdoor movies – Summer nights are perfect for outdoor movies and there are two coming up on Aug. 21 so you’ll have to choose. The City of Avalon and CHOICES will be screening How to Train Your Dragon 2 on South Beach in the evening. The Catalina Museum will be continuing it series of movies that feature or mention Catalina, with Multiplicity in their outdoor amphitheater.
