It’s not a secret that October is the best time of year on Catalina Island. We love the slower pace (at least during the week), the cooler temperatures and even the earlier twilight. It’s still warm enough for a swim and dining outside.
Here’s a few other things that make October the best time of year on Catalina Island.
JazzTrax – Well, of course. For more than three decades this spectacular smooth jazz festival has been a Catalina Island must-do. Spread over two weekends, you can get tickets for single shows or the whole shebang. Upcoming concerts include Jesse Cook, Hiroshima, Keiko Matsui, Skinny Hightower and the Urban Jazz Coalition. JazzTrax is this weekend and the next.
Fallfest – We love Fallfest. It just brims with community spirit and that special something that makes island living unique. Maybe it’s the live music or the cake walk. Could be the hayrides or the pie contest. It’s definitely the pumpkin patch on the beach and seeing all our friends and neighbors. Don’t miss it – Oct. 18 from 5 to 9 p.m. all along Crescent Avenue.
The Catalina Home Tour – This fundraiser by the Catalina Island Medical Center Foundation has become one of those events that visitors and locals alike look forward to. Featuring half a dozen fascinating Catalina homes, the Avalon Home Tour offers a rare opportunity to take a peek at how everyone else lives. The homes are both modern and classic, perched on the hillsides and cottages on the flats. The Avalon Home Tour is scheduled for Oct. 20 from 1-5 p.m. and tickets are $60. Click here for details.
Halloween – There’s just so much to love. Halloween in the Garden is returning to the Wrigley Memorial and Botanic Garden Oct. 27 with a Trail of Fright, crafts, games, dancing, live music, costume contest, garden treasure hunt and much more.
Planning holiday parties – If you’re already wondering what you can do this December, we’ve got you covered with the Santa’s Happy Hour Tour. Click here for the details.
