Catalina Buzz – December 2017
This holiday season on Catalina Island we’re looking forward to quite a few events – as well as what really matters.
The holiday spirit: With all the pressures that go along with the holiday season, it’s easy to forget to take time for yourself, your family and your friends. This December, here at Catalina Food Tourswe’re making what’s important a priority – the people that make Catalina Island such as magical place.
Shop Catalina: You may remember it as Shop at Home Night or Shop in Avalon, but whatever you call it, this evening of holiday cheer is a great way to get in the spirit while supporting local businesses and avoiding the headaches of shopping on the mainland. It all kicks off Dec. 2 with the tree lighting at 5 p.m. followed by the usual discounts, raffles and Victorian-clad carolers.
Holiday Open House at the Inn at Mt. Ada: Hosted by the Catalina Island Company and benefitting the Catalina Island Foundation and the Catalina Island Women’s Forum, this afternoon of Christmas spirit promises holiday décor, cookies and tours of the historic inn. The fun begins at 2 p.m. on Dec. 7 and continues until 6 p.m. Admission is $5 per person (over 14 only). Shuttles will run continuously from the Tour Bus Plaza for $2.
Chihuly at the Catalina Island Museum: If you haven’t seen it yet, what in the heck are you waiting for? You’ve only got a few short weeks to see this spectacular installation before it closes on Dec. 11. To really appreciate the world-renowned glass works, check it out at night during Chihuly at Sunset – the last one is Dec. 8.
Holiday Season Celebration: We’ve come to look at the Catalina Island Museum’s holiday program as an essential part of our December calendar. This year’s program includes a screening of the iconic classic It’s A Wonderful Life and a concert of holiday songs by a select group of Avalon Students and children from the McCoy Rigby Conservatory of the Arts. It all begins in the Avalon Theatre at 4 p.m. Dec. 9.
