Wouldn’t it be amazing if you could wander around Avalon sampling some of Catalina’s best culinary creations, trying out the best tastes Avalon restaurants have to offer? Throw in a few tasty cocktails and you’d have the perfect Catalina activity.
We feel the same way. Which is why Catalina Food Tours was born. We’ve since shown off the culinary scene on Catalina to thousands of visitors and started the Catalina Happy Hour Tour, a more light-hearted look at the best bars – and drinks – in town.
The whole shebang was inspired by an annual event that is now celebrating its 15th year. The Taste Around of Avalon offers a unique opportunity to sample – and vote on — some special tastes at more than a dozen local restaurants. All you need to do is purchase a voting card from the event organizer, the Catalina Island Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau. The cards are just $2 from May 27 to May 29 and $3 on the day of the event, May 30.
The Taste Around tastes will be divided into four categories: appetizers/main dishes; sweets & treats, alcoholic beverages and non-alcoholic beverages. Each taste will be available for a small charge, typically $1 to $5 from 5 to 9 p.m. Most of your favorite spots will be taking part in the festivities, including Bluewater Avalon, Maggie’s Blue Rose, Steve’s Steakhouse and Seafood and more. You definitely won’t want to miss Catalina Coffee & Cookie Co., which last year brought home top honors for their Strawberry Hibiscus tea. They also served vegan donuts — which have become a regular menu item and a popular choice for those looking for vegan options on Catalina Island.
If you need a break from all that eating and drinking, Isleños will be playing live music on Wrigley Stage from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
